Strategic advisory. Australia and Japan.
Building strategic relationships between Australia and Japan that endure.
Nichigo Partners is a strategic advisory firm focused exclusively on Australia and Japan.
We work with Australian and Japanese owners, boards and management teams to identify where long-term strategic alignment exists, and then help build the relationship properly.
From positioning and market entry to strategic equity, capital, M&A and long-term corporate partnership, our role extends well beyond an introduction.
Strategy before introduction. Relationship before transaction.
Two markets. One relationship.
Serious cross-border relationships require more than an introduction.
Australia and Japan have one of the region's deepest economic relationships.
Yet successful partnerships are rarely determined by capital alone.
They depend on understanding strategic intent, organisational culture, decision-making, management philosophy, long-term objectives and the people behind the business.
Nichigo Partners works between those worlds.
We help Australian companies understand how they will be viewed from Japan, identify the Japanese organisations with which genuine strategic alignment may exist, and shape the relationship from first engagement through to long-term collaboration.
For Japanese organisations, we provide informed access to Australian companies, owners, management teams and opportunities that align with clearly defined strategic priorities, together with the local context required to assess them properly.
An introduction is simply the beginning.

What we do
Strategy before introduction.
- 01Strategic PartnershipsWe identify where Australian and Japanese companies can create greater long-term value together and help shape the strategic logic, positioning and relationship required to make that possible.
- 02Strategic CapitalWe work with Australian companies seeking long-term Japanese capital and with Japanese corporates, investors and financial institutions seeking strategically relevant opportunities in Australia, including strategic equity, project investment, joint ventures, structured capital and long-term institutional relationships.
- 03M&A and Corporate DevelopmentWe originate and position Australian private-company opportunities for Japanese strategic acquirers and work with Japanese organisations seeking acquisitions, investments and new business platforms in Australia.
- 04Cross-Border Market StrategyWe help Australian companies understand how their business, management and ambitions need to be positioned for Japan, and Japanese companies understand the commercial environment, opportunities and relationships required to establish or expand in Australia.
- 05Strategic OriginationWe identify Australian opportunities against clearly defined Japanese strategic priorities, and Japanese counterparties against clearly defined Australian ambitions.
How we create value
Preparation changes the quality of the relationship.
Cross-border relationships succeed when both sides properly understand the organisation, people and strategic intent of the other.
For Australian companies engaging Japan, this requires an understanding of how Japanese organisations assess opportunities, build consensus and develop trust.
For Japanese organisations engaging Australia, it requires informed local context around ownership, management, commercial dynamics, market conditions and the people behind the opportunity.
Nichigo prepares both sides for a better conversation.
- We develop the strategic narrative.
- We identify where genuine alignment exists.
- We prepare organisations for cross-border engagement.
- We engage the appropriate counterparties.
- We interpret context and feedback on both sides.
- And we remain involved as trust develops.
This is not simply an introduction process. It is the disciplined development of a strategic relationship.
The Japanese lens
How a company is understood matters as much as what it does.
A strong Australian business does not automatically present as a compelling Japanese strategic partner.
Nichigo helps Australian companies answer these questions before they are asked.
We curate the story, the strategic logic and the materials required to build confidence with a Japanese reader.
Japanese decision-makers typically want to understand
- Who owns the business?
- Who leads it?
- What is the management philosophy?
- How are decisions made?
- What has been built over time?
- What does the company stand for?
- What does management want the business to become?
- Why is a Japanese relationship strategically relevant?
Understanding must work in both directions.
We also help Japanese organisations interpret Australian businesses, management teams, ownership structures and market opportunities through informed local context. Successful collaboration requires both sides to understand not only the opportunity, but the organisation and people behind it.

The relationship is changing.
Japanese investment in Australia was historically concentrated in resources, energy and large infrastructure.
Today, Japanese corporates are increasingly seeking growth, technology, housing, food security, financial services, healthcare and new operating platforms.
The opportunity is shifting from investment in individual assets towards deeper partnerships between Australian and Japanese companies.
From assets to companies. From transactions to relationships.
Our difference
Judgment on both sides of the relationship.
Japan deeply understood
Decades of direct experience in Japan inform how we assess counterparties, interpret decision-making, position opportunities and guide relationships over time.
Australia understood from the inside
Our relationships with Australian owners, boards, CEOs, investors and management teams provide direct insight into the businesses, people and opportunities shaping the Australian market.
Principal-led
Our principals remain personally involved. The people advising at the beginning of the relationship remain involved as it develops.
Independent judgment
We do not manufacture introductions for the sake of activity. We focus on counterparties where there is a credible strategic reason for both sides to engage.
Relationship-led. Execution-focused.
We believe structure should follow understanding. An introduction is the beginning of the work, not the end.
